Orchestral scores composed and arranged by Ben Model are available for performance license. The four scores listed below were commissioned by the New York Ragtime Orchestra and by the Boise Philharmonic. They are suitable for performance by a full ensemble of professionals – from chamber music size to full symphony – as well as by a good student orchestra (high school or university). Three of these scores are newly re-orchestrated for band and have been performed by high school bands. The films can be shown in 16mm, 35mm or with a DVD.
THE ADVENTURER starring Charlie Chaplin -- Chaplin plays an escaped convict who comes to the rescue of a pretty socialite, who takes him home to a fancy party. His cover is blown by a guest and the cops arrive in chase.
(Now available for concert band!!)
THE IMMIGRANT starring Charlie Chaplin -- Chaplin "comes across" to the USA in this classic, poignant tale of an immigrant surving poverty and finding love.
(Now available for concert band!!)
ONE WEEK starring Buster Keaton -- Buster Keaton gets married, and his wedding present is a build-it-yourself house. Buster and his bride build the house, unaware that his rival has switched the numbers on the boxes, resulting in one of the most surreal homes ever built.
COPS starring Buster Keaton -- Keaton sets out to prove to his girlfriend that he can become a successful businessman, buying a wagon of furniture and accidentally driving it into a parade, which leads to one of the greatest chases in silent comedy.
(Now available for concert band!!)
Newly available (summer 2010) is a new score for the Harold Lloyd feature film Grandma's Boy (1922). The score was created in the tradition of silent film scoring practices of the 1920s. This score was composed and compiled by Ben Model, meaning that some themes were composed by Model, with the remainder compiled from vintage silent movie mood music cues published during the '10s and '20s for motion picture accompaniment.
These "photoplay" music cues are also available for concert performance. Drawing on a private collection of over 360 of these mood pieces, a concert suite of piece can be assembled for your orchestra. Since these pieces were composed and arranged to be able to be played by musicians of a variety of technical abilities, they are playable by both the professional symphonic ensemble as well as by a good high school orchestra.
